Whiddon’s industry leading approach to excellence in catering and laundry services has been recognised with Whiddon Casino, Whiddon Grafton, Whiddon Laurieton and Whiddon Maclean named as National Finalists in the 2017 Aged Care Hospitality Awards.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Whiddon has had finalists in these prestigious awards. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in November.

  • Whiddon Casino for Catering Innovation of the Year
Whiddon Casino was nominated for their innovative idea to incorporate a food digester system into the kitchen to reduce the aged care home’s carbon footprint and make the most out of food waste! The fully enclosed system decomposes the waste using a series of processes where microorganisms break down the waste. It’s odour free, user friendly and doesn’t use chemicals. Food waste can be added at any time and it reduces the need for unsightly and large bins for food waste that can sometimes be difficult to move. It’s been a great success and they’re able to track the weight of food waste, usage and carbon reduction!
  • Whiddon Grafton, Rebecca Mathieson for Food Service Assistant of the Year
Rebecca brings incredible passion and love to her role as Food Service Assistant at Whiddon Grafton. She goes the extra mile on every shift to make sure that residents feel special. To all at Whiddon Grafton, she’s an inspiration. Rebecca has developed very special bonds with residents, families and staff. Rebecca is known to add many special touches to enhance the dining experience for residents and she’s often preparing their favourite meals or desserts. It’s the little things she does that make a great difference to our residents. The love she has for her work certainly shines through, and she’s highly respected for her talents, compassion and sincerity.
  • Whiddon Laurieton for Catering Service of the Year
Staff at Whiddon Laurieton have worked extensively over the past eight months to improve and enhance the food service and dining experience. Soft music plays in the background to welcome residents to more intimate dining spaces, replacing the larger dining areas that existed before. The main dining room has been transformed into a bright, light filled room with bi-fold doors leading to a large undercover area for residents to relax and enjoy. The addition of a homely kitchen for residents to prepare their favourite recipes has seen many stories and memories around food and celebrations shared.
  • Whiddon Maclean, Kym Eckersley for Laundry Services Individual of the Year
Kym is an exceptional employee and shows great passion and dedication to her role. Kym goes above and beyond to ensure laundry service needs are not only meet, but exceeded. She is often making small repairs to items or fixing buttons. Nothing is too much trouble for Kym; she always goes out of her way to make a difference. Her positive and caring nature and ability to interact so well with residents, families and staff, makes a difference to everyone. This also shines through her work and her attention to detail.
