Event organisers from The Whiddon Group Temora were thrilled with the success of this year’s Temora Fisherama Fishing & Camping Family Weekend. The event, held at Lake Centenary on the second weekend of October, attracted as many as 170 registered participants.

Whiddon Group Temora Director Care Services Gail Lynch said $10,500 was raised from the Fisherama this year, adding to the $40,000 raised in previous years. ‘Over the last 4 years we have raised funds to build an outdoor area which, thanks to the local community’s ongoing support, is now complete,’ said Ms Lynch. ‘Our residents are thoroughly enjoying the new area, which they use for special events and happy hour, playing carpet bowls and cards, or just enjoying quiet time with visiting relatives. Recent bad weather has made us realise the need to add protection from the wind and rain, so this year’s proceeds will go towards the making and fitting of all-weather blinds. Our residents are looking forward to being able to use the area rain, hail or shine.’

Visitors flocked from as far as Cowra, Forbes, Tuross Head and Cobar to take part in festivities that included food stalls, raffles, guessing competitions and, of course, fishing. This year, anglers reeled in 166 fish – exactly twice as many as last year – including 11 carp, 34 murray cod, 34 golden perch and 87 silver perch. Lillian Williams took out the prize for ‘Most Bagged Fish’ with a haul of 15 fish, while the coveted “Most Unusual Catch” award went to Nat Wood, whose ‘muzzlefish’ won out against an ‘ellafish’ and a ‘marni-tacklefish’. Guessing competitions peaked plenty of interest at just $1 a guess, with Drew Robinson earning a huge jar of 3052 chocolate beanies for his guess of 3006 and Cassidy Robinson taking home the chocolate gold for a perfect guess of 221.

‘This event would not happen without the support of all our enthusiastic anglers, generous sponsors and the Temora community, whose ongoing support of this event and our organisation is greatly appreciated,’ said Ms Lynch. ‘We would like to thank the many sponsors that contributed to the success of the event, including Tackle World, BCS Custom Baits, and many local businesses. The Temora Men’s Shed did an incredible job feeding our hungry anglers and Tony Storm held a great fishing equipment stall for anglers to top up their supplies. We would also like to acknowledge the Temora Police for their support, presence and
interest over the weekend.’

‘The Whiddon Group Temora’s fifth Fisherama has been a truly humbling success and we hope to see you all in 2015!’
