VintageBites, a creative ageing food and cooking program run exclusively by Whiddon, recently served up delicious home cooked treats and a smorgasbord of entertainment at Whiddon Narrabri.

Narrabri Seniors, a day respite group, joined Narrabri Robert Young residents for the theatre of a cooking demonstration, a pumpkin scone bake-off and a chance to share stories around food and related experiences.

VintageBites aims to create a sense of community, offer opportunities for older people to create new social connections and bring people together through food, cooking and storytelling.

Director Care Services Whiddon Narrabri, Maree Taylor said this program has certainly been embraced at Whiddon Narrabri and has proven to be a recipe for success.

‘The program offers fantastic opportunities for residents and clients to enjoy fun activities around cooking, share family recipes and traditions, have meaningful conversations and grow their knowledge, skills and experience. For community care clients especially, it’s a great vehicle for regular social interaction and motivation around appropriate nutrition.’

‘Our residents and clients thoroughly enjoyed the recent VintageBites pumpkin scone bake-off where a number of recipes were put to the test, judged and sampled by residents and clients. The results of the bake-off were a mix of fun, creative expression, connection, smiles and laughter.’ Ms Taylor said.

A festive themed bake-off is next on the menu for Whiddon Narrabri’s VintageBites program.

VintageBites encompasses cooking, food traditions, nutrition and socialisation and is currently being run at a number of Whiddon’s services across NSW.
