Join us in celebrating Thelma Chandler’s 106th birthday!<\/p>\n

Thelma celebrates her 106th birthday surrounded by family, friends, carers and residents at her aged care home. Thelma shares her long life secrets \u2013 living each day as it comes, leaving the bad behind and surrounding yourself with people who lift you up \u2013 and her new goal, to get into the Guinness Book of Records.<\/p>\n

“I might be a year older, but I think age is all in the mind. And I do think that with age you get a little bit of extra wisdom,” Thema said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chrissie: Yes. She can\u2019t believe it herself.
\nThelma: Oh golly, that\u2019s old isn\u2019t it? Strangely enough \u2013 I just feel the same as I always felt.<\/p>\n

George: Thelma was born in Milsons Point in 1911, three years before the First World War.
\nWe are so proud to have Thelma here. To have someone that’s 106 is just amazing.
\nI’ll always remember two years ago when Thelma walked through the door with her niece Chrissie. The first thing she said to me once we came through that front door and I introduced myself, was she looked into our dining room, lounge room, and she said, “Is that where the disco will be?\u201d
\ntwo weeks ago when I reminded her again, “What’s going on? How old you’re going to be?” “106.” “What are we gonna do?” \u201cDisco.”
\nThelma: I feel pretty good present time with all this lovely people around me
\nMP: I remember very clearly the many birthdays Thelma has had over the last five or six years but being here today for Thelma\u2019s 106th birthday I have to say is going to be one of the highlights of my political career.
\nSpeech: The believes in letting go of today and looking forward to tomorrow.
\nHarry: I\u2019ve known Thelma now for I don\u2019t know, maybe the last forty years or something. The other day I came and seen her in her room and I said Thelma, do you think you and I could get together sometime on our own and get to the pictures or something like that and I\u2019d get you a box of chocolates and sit up in the back row and smooch up the back row. Hahaha, and she looked at me and she started laughing and she said \u201ccome back when you\u2019re a bit older Harry she said. hahaha.<\/p>\n

\nThelma: I feel as though I am going to get into the book of records, the Guinness Book of Record, eventually (Laughs) if I keep going.

\nI always think of tomorrow. I don\u2019t go back and think of what I should have done and could have done and didn\u2019t do because I didn\u2019t do those things but what I did to, I think I\u2019ve tried to do my best\u2026
\nAnd today I feel I\u2019ve been blessed with wonderful friends and people that have helped me on this journey.
