Whiddon Expands in Maclean, NSW with Mareeba Aged Care Home Acquisition
For more than 40 years, Mareeba Aged Care has been owned and operated by the Gordon and Baker families, providing trusted residential aged care to the Maclean community.
Whiddon is proud to announce the new acquisition of the Maclean-based care home. From October 2025, Mareeba will officially become Whiddon Maclean Mareeba. Importantly, no staffing changes are expected, ensuring residents and families continue to enjoy the same familiar faces and continuity of care they know and value.
Directors Steve Gordon and Sam Baker shared, “We are confident that Whiddon is the right provider to take Mareeba into the future and continue the legacies the Baker and Gordon families have helped grow over the last 40 years.”
Whiddon’s Growing Presence in Maclean and Northern Rivers
Whiddon already has a strong footprint in Maclean through Whiddon Retirement Village and Whiddon Maclean Residential Care, both of which will remain in operation. With the addition of Whiddon Mareeba Maclean, the community will have greater access to aged care, retirement living, and home care services close to home.
The acquisition highlights Whiddon’s focus on regional and rural aged care in NSW, ensuring older Australians can continue living connected, supported, and meaningful lives in their local communities.
Strengthening Aged Care Across NSW and Queensland
The acquisition means Whiddon’s network will grow to:
- 23 aged care homes
- 12 retirement villages
- A home care service supporting communities across NSW and Southeast Queensland
This expansion further cements Whiddon’s role as a leader in aged care, retirement living, and community care across Australia.
Looking Ahead
With the addition of Mareeba Aged Care, Whiddon is excited to continue supporting the Maclean community with high-quality aged care services built on compassion, connection, and more than 75 years of not-for-profit expertise.
As Whiddon continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to enrich lives and create communities where older people can thrive.
