Tom’s Trip of a Lifetime

Tom, a Community Care client, had a few difficult months, in the lead up to and following the passing of his beloved wife.

Family means the world to Tom and having his wife and best friend pass away reinforced the importance of family and close relationships, Tom is now taking the trip of a lifetime to visit his hometown in Scotland – his birthplace – to reconnect with extended family after a number of years.

Tom says he’s looking forward to seeing his sister and catching up with his cousins, uncles and aunties who all remained in Scotland. With him, he’s taking his daughter Lorraine and brother Peter, saying: “I hope they have a good time.”

It’ll be an adventure. To him, Scotland is quite small, smaller than his current home state of New South Wales, so he’s keen to make his way around. “You can go and see a lot of places just in one day or two days,” Tom says.

“When you get to seventy I think it’s just trying to keep yourself as fit as you can… I can’t walk very far but I’m happy.”

After Scotland, he has plans to go to Broken Hill next, so it looks like he’s caught the travel bug.
