Italian inspired VintageBites helps aged care residents stay connected
VintageBites brings a piece of Italy to aged care residents
An Italian inspired VintageBites session brought a little piece of Italy to aged care residents at Whiddon Easton Park in celebration of the Italian holiday, Ferragosto.
Rosa Romano, Whiddon Food Services Assistant and passionate Italian cook, served up a pasta-making workshop to the delight of residents. The hands-on workshop saw residents whip up Italian culinary classics such gnocchi, spaghetti and fettuccine, while sharing stories around Italian cooking, holidays and culture.
There was plenty of excitement as the aroma of simmering pasta sauces filled the air and Italian music was lovingly played by a guest performer. After the cooking session, residents sat down to a beautifully decorated table to enjoy bruschetta and salad, followed by delicious pasta dishes they’d created.
VintageBites, a creative ageing program developed by The Whiddon Group, provides opportunities for creative self-expression, learning and social connection. For many residents, it was the first time they had made fresh pasta and they were thrilled with the results. It provided a sense of accomplishment, a chance to learn new skills and an important opportunity for social connection through food and celebration.
