A letter to Whiddon Easton Park employees

8 November 2021

Dear Team,

Firstly, I want to thank you for all that you do in caring for the residents here at Whiddon Easton Park. I know that the past 18 months have been a very difficult time for all. Having to navigate the pandemic and the additional pressures of wearing PPE and the RA-Testing, along with your own personal challenges that COVID-19 has brought, could not have been easy. I want you to know that we appreciate everything you have done, and continue to do in keeping everyone safe.

Recently, many of you have had to face additional pressures due to staff shortages. These shortages are due to a variety of reasons including:

  1. Single Site Working Arrangements
  2. Staff being identified as close or casual contacts of a COVID-19 positive person
  3. Planned leave (Please note that planned leave is only approved if there is staff to cover these shifts, at the time these were approved the shifts could be covered)

However, it is disappointing to see that over the last week (Monday 1- Sunday 7 November), we experienced multiple staff calling in sick, applying for emergency leave or staff cancelling their shifts. While we accept that people get sick and that there are emergencies that may arise from time to time, the number of staff that didn’t work their rostered shifts last week was unprecedented. This resulted in additional stress on colleagues.

While we did as much as we could to replace the staff that were absent, unfortunately, we could not replace all shifts. We do thank everyone who did go the extra mile to support the residents during this time.

As a reminder to all staff, if you do apply for leave, we will only approve your leave if there is a sufficient number of staff to cover your shift. Now that both our state and international borders are open again, I do expect to see an increase number of leave applications.

Please be assured that we will do our very best to accommodate your requests, however we will not be able to approve leave if there is not a sufficient number of staff to replace you. We will offer you an alternative time, however our priority needs to be resident care.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind Regards

Sharon Fletcher
Operations Manager (Easton Park)

MEMO to all employees – Single Site Arrangement Ceases

Single Site Arrangement Ceases

3 November 2021

As you are aware on the 14 August 2021 employees who worked for more than one Aged Care provider were asked to work at one site only as an important infection control measure against COVID-19. We would like to thank all of you who participated in these arrangements for your contribution to protecting your fellow colleagues and our residents.

As of today, providers have been advised by the Department of Health that Single Site Arrangements will cease from the 15 November 2021.

What this means for you is that over the next two weeks we will transition back to our ordinary rosters and you can resume your usual working arrangements.

As a matter of priority please speak with your manager about your own circumstances and resuming your usual working arrangements in line for return to pre-Single Site Arrangements rosters by the 15 November 2021.

Once again, we would like to thank you for your dedication and cooperation over this uncertain time. We understand that for many of you this has been a challenging time, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP is a free and confidential counselling service available to all employees and immediate family members. This service can be contacted by phoning 1800 818 728, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

In addition to the above, please don’t hesitate to speak with your manager or contact the People and Culture team.

Update on Single Site Arrangements

22 October 2021

We have recently had some questions in relation to the end date of Single Site Arrangements. Whiddon has today (22/10/21) confirmed directly with the Guiding Principles Hub that there is no end date for Single Site Arrangements in NSW at this time.

The Department of Health have put criteria in place that must be met before these arrangements will cease. These are:

  • No cases of COVID-19 in residents or staff in residential aged care in NSW
  • Community transmission is considered low risk for two weeks

When these criteria are met the Department of Health will issue advice and provide 2 weeks’ notice that the arrangements will cease.

If you are receiving information from other employers that differs from the above please speak with your manager about this so that we may assist you accordingly.
