The team from our Temora home are delighted with the success of their annual Fisherama Fishing and Camping Family Weekend, which ran on October 10th and 11th.

Held annually at Lake Centenary, the event continues to draw in families from all over the Riverina region who this year were treated to glorious weather and perfect fishing conditions.

The event originally began to raise funds for our Temora home, but quickly evolved to what is now a large annual community event, with over 200 registered participants this year.

This year 267 fish were caught and released, including Silver and Golden Perch, Cod and Carp. The longest fish was a Cod caught by Ellis Breust which measured at a huge 64cm.

Over $10,000 worth of prizes were up for grabs at the event, including camping equipment, a Waeco fridge/freezer and even a motorised Blueline boat, cover and trailer, which saw some very excited winners amongst the crowd.

Our Director Care Services in Temora, Gail Lynch, said around $15,000 was raised from the Fisherama this year, adding to the $50,500 from previous years.

The funds will go towards equipment within the home, as well as completing the all-weather outdoor area, which was built in 2014 using funds raised from previous Fisherama events, with a retractable awning, barbeque and outdoor furniture.

The outdoor area is enjoyed regularly by residents who use it for special events, outdoor activities and spending time with their families and friends.

“On behalf of Whiddon Temora, I’d like to especially thank our staff members Bev Jordan, Kerrie Kennedy and Karen Macauley for going above and beyond their call of duties in helping to set up the event and ensure its smooth running,” said Gail.

“The Fisherama continues to grow every year and provides a chance for local families to catch up and enjoy a fishing and camping weekend, and also gives our residents the opportunity to remain connected to the local community,” she said.

Whiddon Temora would also like to thank major sponsors Tackleworld Wagga and BCF, as well as the Men’s Shed, volunteer marshals and the Whiddon employees who assisted during the event – cooking baked goods, running the barbeque, selling raffle tickets and general administration.
