Date: 11 September 2016

Whiddon’s new aged care home on the corner of Queen and Crown St in Grafton has opened its doors and welcomed residents into their new home and staff into their new workplace.

Stage one of the new home opened in late August following just over 12 months of construction. The first stage of the home saw Whiddon Grafton’s existing residents transfer across to the new building and settle into the new, modern home. Stage two of the home will follow in late 2017 and bring nearly 60 additional aged care places to enable more older people in the Clarence region to access care services.

The new home, once both stages are complete, will offer 112 fully furnished private and double rooms with ensuite bathrooms, in-room Foxtel and air conditioning; a secure dementia wing with internal courtyard, stunning gardens and outdoor areas, an onsite cafe, extra parking, a new entrance foyer and onsite community care services.

Recognising the work of our local community members

The two wings of the new home have been named in recognition and honour of two individuals and local community members who have supported Whiddon Grafton for more than 20 years. The first floor wing has been named in honour and recognition of the work of Mr Livingstone and the second floor wing has been named in honour and recognition of the work of Mr Forman.

Read about Mr Forman’s contributions to Whiddon and how he was brought to tears when we phoned to ask permission to name the new wing after him in the Daily Examiner – http://bit.ly/FormanWhiddonGrafton
