The Whiddon Group Narrabri hosted their very first Memory Walk on Sunday 11 September to raise awareness during Dementia Awareness Month (September 1 – 30).

More than 50 locals turned out to join the inaugural Memory Walk hosted by Whiddon’s Narrabri residential and community care services, in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Australia.

Whiddon’s Deputy Director Care Services, Ms Kylie Finlay said she was delighted to see the support of so many in the community who contributed to the success of the event.

‘Dementia affects or touches us all in some way. The Memory Walk is a great way to encourage a better understanding of dementia, raise vital funds to support people living with dementia and promote healthy and active living,’

‘More than $3,500 was raised on the day and will go towards supporting Alzheimer’s Australia and programs and special celebrations for our Narrabri residents.’

It was a lovely sunny day and following the 3km walk, participants enjoyed a BBQ with residents, staff, community members and other supporters of the event. A touching moment was when Ron, the husband of one of our residents, surrounded by his family cut the yellow ribbon to mark the start of the walk.

The team at Whiddon Narrabri would like to thank the many local businesses who supported the Memory Walk and donated raffle items for fundraising.

A big thank you to The Crossroads Hotel, NuYu Day Spa & Beauty, Coogle Cottage, Authentic Trademarks, Maverick Café, Watson’s Kitchen, Woolworths Narrabri, Nicole Glesson-Lendon, Donuts 4 Charities, Crossing Theatre, Southern Cross Motel, Tapscotts Fuel,One23 Café, Clipjoint Hairdressing and all participants and everyone involved for their generous support.
