Whiddon’s industry leading approach to excellence in catering and laundry hotel services has been recognised with Whiddon Grafton and Whiddon Maclean named as national winners in the 2017 Oscar Aged Care Hospitality Awards.

Rebecca Mathieson from Whiddon Grafton was named Food Services Assistant of the Year and Kym Eckersley from Whiddon Maclean was named Laundry Services Individual of the Year at the 2017 Awards Dinner in Melbourne on 3 November.

Whiddon CEO, Mr Chris Mamarelis welcomed the announcement and said these accolades speak to Whiddon’s resident focused approach to hospitality services.

“We’re thrilled to receive these awards. To be recognised nationally for excellence in catering and hospitality is testament to our industry leading approach to aged care. It’s a wonderful achievement and I’m very proud of Rebecca, Kym and the teams at Whiddon Grafton and Whiddon Maclean. Our people are at the very heart of our organisation and are making a real difference in the lives of older Australians every day.”

“The Aged Care Hospitality Awards are a fantastic initiative and are a great way to not only recognise food and service excellence in the aged care industry, but also the incredible contributions and efforts of those working in aged care. This year the organisers received an extraordinary number of nominations; to be named as the winner of two categories in such a competitive process truly is an incredible achievement.” Mr Mamarelis said.

Rebecca has been a part of the Whiddon Grafton team for more than three years and was nominated for her professionalism, personalised service and attention to detail.

Rebecca brings incredible passion and love to her role and goes the extra mile on every shift to make sure that residents feel special. To all at Whiddon Grafton, she’s an inspiration. She is highly respected for her talents, compassion and sincerity.

Rebecca is known to add many special touches to enhance the dining experience for residents and she’s often preparing their favourite meals or desserts. It’s the little things she does that make a great difference to our residents.

Kym Eckersley, Laundry Services Individual of the Year

Kym has been at Whiddon Maclean for close to eight years and was nominated for excellence in her role and her kind and caring approach

Kym brings joy to many at Whiddon Maclean and is an exceptional employee who is very dedicated to our residents. She gets to know them personally and really understands their needs. She goes above and beyond to ensure their laundry service needs are not only meet, but exceeded. She is often making small repairs to items or fixing buttons.

Nothing is too much trouble for Kym; she always goes out of her way to make a difference.
