Understand the different costs and payment options for residential aged care.
Complete your application forms.
Sign your Agreement and move into your new home.
Moving into a residential care home is a big decision and it is important to understand the costs and fees associated with care so that you and your family can choose the home, accommodation type and payment option that best meets your needs. The fees that you pay cover the cost of the care you receive and your accommodation in an aged care home.
While aged care fees are subsidised by the Australian Government, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of your care and accommodation if you can afford to do so. More information can be found here.
We strongly recommend that you seek independent financial advice to help you choose the right option for you.
Basic Daily Fee (BDF) – covers meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities. Calculated at 85% of the single basic age pension and changes twice a year. All residents are required to pay this fee.
Hotelling Contribution (HC) – covers extra daily living costs. This fee is means-tested, with daily and lifetime caps, and Services Australia will determine and advise the amount, if any, that is payable based on your individual circumstances.
Non-Clinical Care Contribution (NCCC) – covers personal care, such as bathing and mobility assistance. This fee is means-tested, with daily and lifetime caps, and Services Australia will determine and advise the amount, if any, is payable based on your individual circumstances.
The fees you pay also depend on when you enter care. New residents from 1 November 2025 pay under the current arrangements; residents already in permanent care as of 31 October 2025 keep their existing arrangements unless they choose to move to the new ones. See our Understanding Aged Care Fees guide for full detail on which arrangements apply to you.
Accommodation costs contribute to your room and the built environment of the service.
The Income and Assets Assessment is a Government assessment, completed by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, to determine your ability to contribute to your accommodation and care costs.
Assisted transport services
Through Whiddon’s Home Care services we are able to offer residents access to Personal Transport Services. These services ensure that your family member can access the community, attend external health appointments, or attend special occasions when they may otherwise be unable to do so.

Higher Everyday Living Fee
The Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF) covers optional extras and higher quality lifestyle services across all Whiddon homes. You can choose from the HELF offerings at any time after admission and adjust your selection as your needs change. HELF selections can be cancelled within 28 days of signing the agreement, excluding the cost of any items or services already received. Full terms and conditions are outlined in the HELF Agreement.
Please contact us to find out more about the HELFs options available at each home.
